QUALITY
Domus Designs furniture is built to provide a lifetime of carefree service. The following is a general description of the standards used in the production of our products.
Quality of materials: To make fine furniture it is necessary to start with the best of materials.
Teakwood:
• Only plantation grown* wood of ‘First Quality’ supplied by the Indonesian Government forestry agency is used in the manufacture of our furniture.
• Wood is selected for consistency of color within each piece of furniture and is free of voids, checks or major discoloration.
• All wood is kiln dried to a maximum of 13% moisture before machining and assembly of the furniture.
Fasteners and hardware:
• All hardware is made of high quality brass or stainless steel. Brass pieces are coated to prevent oxidation.
• All screws and bolts are of brass or stainless steel.
Upholstery:
• Cushions and umbrella covers are made exclusively of fade resistant Sunbrella fabric, which carries a warranty from Glen Raven Mills.
• Cushions utilize closed cell high-density foam to retain shape and resilience. Manufacturing:
Manufacturing quality practices are rigorously followed though the entire process.
Construction and Assembly:
• Individual components are manufactured to exacting standards by skilled craftsmen.
• Structural components are tightly fitted together with the time proven mortise and tenon joinery techniques.
• Moving joints (e. g. folding chairs and tables) are preassembled and tested to assure the movement works smoothly and the fasteners are secured so they will not loosen during transport and normal use.
• Glued joints are fully bonded with a premium grade weather resistant polyurethane furniture adhesive to assure structural integrity for generations.
Finishing:
• Finishing begins even before the assembly stage. Wooden components are sanded to remove rough spots and assure clean, tight fitting joints.
• After assembly, each piece is cleaned and all excess glue is removed. The assembly is adjusted for level footing and edges and corners are sanded round to provide a well-finished, comfortable feel.
• Final finishing employs a three-step process. 400-grit sandpaper is used in the final sanding stage and then we take the extra step of hand polishing the wood surfaces. This produces the smooth, velvety touch fine teak is known for.
• The finished piece is then thoroughly cleaned with compressed air to remove dust particles from the surface.
Packing and Handling:
• All pieces are tightly packed in corrugated cartons with appropriate blocking inside the carton to prevent shifting and add crushing resistance to the carton. Irregular shaped pieces are wrapped with corrugated carton-board and then placed in multilayer carton boxes.
